Often found while on woodland walks these low maintenance perennials have been standard fare since the 14th century. The purple flowers have a delicate pea flavour to liven up both the look and taste of summer salads. Highly fragrant Viola odorata add a unique sweetness to desserts and are often crystallised to use as a decoration for cakes and sweets.
